Southern Regional Research Laboratory,2 New Orleans, Louisiana 70119, U. S. A. Propane sultone (3-hydroxy-1-propanesulfonic acid sultone) was reacted in several nonaqueous solvents with sodium cellulosate which had been prepared and stored in t-butyl alcohol under nitrogen. Results are compared with those obtained with alkali cotton prepared and used in aqueous media. Fabrics finished in organic solvents had higher sulfur contents than those finished in aqueous media.
Key Words: Sultone propane sultone. Chemically modified cotton alkali cotton. Sodium cellulosate. Wrinkle recovery. CrossHnking.
