Substituent Effects on the Visible Absorption Spectra of Aininoazobenzene Disperse Dyes in Acidic Solution

Arnold T. Peters

Dyestuff Research Laboratories, School of Colour Chemistry and Colour Technology, The University, Bradford, Yorks, U.K.

Visible absorption maxima of a range of aminoazobenzene disperse dyes in neutral and acidic media are recorded. Spectral shifts resulting from structural changes in the diazonium and coupling components are related to Hammett {sigma}-constants of substituents and to the pKa values of the dyes.
