Catalytic Effect of Acetic Acid in the Reaction of a Polyamine with WoolCSIRO, Division of Protein Chemistry, Parkville, Victoria 3052, Australia
CSIRO, Division of Protein Chemistry, Parkville, Victoria 3052, Australia The shrink-resist efficiency of Basolan SW on wool is increased when the fabric is pretreated with aqueous tetraethylenepentamine solution and heated. The reaction between wool and the polyamine is shown to be subjected to general acid catalysis whereby hydrogen ions in association with aliphatic carboxylic acids (e.g., acetic acid) promote the polyamine-fiber reaction.
