During the opening of fibers by the opening roller, a considerable number of fibers suffer breakage at one or more points along their length. The vigorous action of the teeth of opening roller also causes a drop in fiber tenacity and elongation. Majority hooks fed in the leading direction cause a greater loss in tenacity than in the trailing direction.
