Distribution of Fiber Diameter Within Sale Lots of Australian Greasy Wool Part II: Coarse Edge StatisticsCSIRO Division of Textile Physics, Ryde, NSW 2112, Australia
School of Wool and Pastoral Sciences, University of New South Wales, Kensington, NSW 2033, Australia Procedures for recording the proportion of coarse fibers in greasy wool sale lots were compared. The percentage of fibers greater than 1.5 times the mean provided an estimate of the coarse edge that was precise and not particularly sensitive to outliers; however, due to the high multiple correlation of this statistic with standard deviation and average fiber diameter, specification of the latter two parameters appeared to obviate the need to specify a third parameter associated with coarse fibers in the distribution.
