Cellular Debris in the Grease of Wool FibersWool Research Organisation of New Zealand, Chrisichurch, New Zealand
Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand, Chrisichurch, New Zealand Cellular debris originating from the wool follicle, its appendages, and the epidermis has been shown by transmission electron microscopy to be dispersed in wool grease. Little interaction of the debris with the undamaged wool fiber surface was observed; however, damaged fiber surfaces invariably had cell debris adhering to them. A negative correlation was found between the protein content of wool washings and the clean wool yield.
