An initial examination of the results generated by the program of fabric testing described in Part I of this series of papers showed no obvious relationship between elongation in either warp or weft direction and the underlying differences in fabric structure. It was necessary to use microscopic and fabric section techniques before the precise mechanism of stretch and stretch control could be explained.
