Analysis of Drape by Means of Dimensionless GroupsUniversity of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, Manchester, England
University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, Manchester, England The drapemeter is a useful method for characterizing the behavior of fabrics, and the drape coefficient has been empirically related to bending and shear stiffness. As part of a wider study of complex buckling, we have found that the geometric form of deformation can be related to two dimensionless groups, relating bending, membrane, and potential energies, and definable in terms of sheet parameters and size. The use of these dimensionless quantities provides a simple way of plotting drape values.
