Industrial Research Institute of Niigata Prefecture, Gakkocho, Mitsuke-shi 954, Japan Dyeing rates of a nylon fabric and a yarn removed from that fabric have been investigated. The apparent diffusion coefficient of dye in the yarn and the diffusional boundary layer parameter are estimated on the basis of the diffusional boundary layer model, assuming that yarns in a fabric are circular cylinders. The apparent diffusion coefficient of p-aminoazobenzene in the yarn removed from the fabric is 1.4 times as large as that of the fabric itself. The contact points of yarns in the fabric are evaluated using Kemp's model, and the fabric dyeing rate is corrected. The approximate thickness of the diffusional boundary layer for the fabric is reevaluated using the value of the apparent diffusion coefficient of dye in the yam.
