During the last few years, many efforts have been made to find an objective method to assess the appearance change of carpets after wear tests. Image analysis and digital image treatment seemed to be useful tools and research often showed fairly good results, but the method was always too limited to provide an overall solution. This paper discusses some of the most promising results of research for an automatic as sessment method for cut pile carpets.
