This paper presents a study of the bending properties of fabric strips with vertical plain seam. The "second moment of area" of a seamed cross section determines the bending behavior of such a strip. Fabric thickness, seam thickness, distance of the neutral axis from the surface of the cross section, and seam allowance width are involved. Various woven fabrics with different seam allowances are investigated. Bending length and bending rigidity obtained from the experimental results are highly related to the second moment of area of the seamed fabric cross section.
