This paper deals with the engineering design of woven fabrics for both domestic and industrial applications. A software program, MECHFAB, is developed to optimize fabric structural parameters based on specifications of the eight most commonly used physical and mechanical properties. In order to find the most economical solution, a cost function for woven fabrics is established and used in the program as the objective function.
