Damage to the surface layer of cotton fibers was observed. Cotton fibers were transformed to yarns in the classical and open-end spinning systems. Damage was observed using a scanning electron microscope JSM-5500LV f-my Jeol. The samples were chosen from the initial and final stages of the technological process. Seven types of damage to the surface layer of cotton were observed.

Key Words: cotton • damage • fibers • scanning electron microscopy • spinning
