DOI: 10.1177/0040517508083729 Fiber Length Distribution in Cotton Processing: A Finite Mixture Distribution ModelInternational Textile Center, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas 79409, USA, mourad.krifa@ttu. edu This paper introduces a new approach to modeling and parameterizing cotton fiber length distribution. The approach uses finite mixture models to derive a parametric expression of the fiber length probability density function. The model was applied to a multitude of empirical length distributions and proved to adequately parameterize the complex distribution patterns, as well as express the intrinsic and process-related factors determining their shape.
